THE "PLACES OF MEMORY". A CINERARY REUSE OF UNUSED WORSHIP BUILDINGS.
THE "PLACES OF MEMORY". A CINERARY REUSE OF UNUSED WORSHIP BUILDINGS.
MONDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2024
3.00 p.m., Sala Convegni 1° floor, Service Center
curated by PROGETTO ARTE POLI
The Conference aims to focus attention on the opportunity that the preservation of cinerary urns can represent for the Italian Church in the reuse and enhancement, as "Places of Memory," of unused or even disused worship buildings.
The theme is approached through a theological-liturgical reflection, architectural and structural suggestions, some clarifications of civil and administrative law, interesting artistic involvements and new proposals for specially prepared cinerary structures.
The considerable logistical and space shortage problems of traditional cemeteries, the new and growing sensitivity that is spreading toward cremation, favor, even in Italy, the alternative search for places to be used for the preservation of ashes. The deposition of the ashes of the deceased in Churches and Chapels designated for this purpose represents, without any doubt, a valid answer, especially in the current disused surplus of many existing buildings for worship.
