75th NATIONAL LITURGICAL WEEK / Catania Italy, August 24-27

Catania will host the 76th National Liturgical Week, a moment of formation and pastoral reflection for bishops, priests, and the faithful, organized by the Centro di Azione Liturgica (CAL), scheduled from August 24 to 27, 2026.

Saint Agatha, Patron Saint of Catania and Christian martyr, will be the spiritual reference for the next edition of the national liturgical conference. A meaningful connection, further strengthened by the fact that the event will immediately follow the Agatine Jubilee Year, which will be celebrated from January 11 to August 18, 2026, on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the translation of the Saint’s relics from Constantinople to Catania.

The theme of the upcoming event is "A CHURCH THAT GENERATES. Liturgy and Christian Initiation".

The 2026 National Liturgical Week – emphasizing that before, during, and after every stage of Christian Initiation there is a ritual action – aims to remind us that we are called to think about and build a new model of initiation, more in line with the historical and ecclesial context we are living in.
From this perspective, the path of Christian Initiation today cannot disregard the community context and the Liturgy as a formative and regenerative experience. The Church presents itself as a mother who generates, through rite and word, new children capable of living the faith fully, within a history of salvation that continues to be present in everyday life.
