ACOUSTICS IN CHURCHES AND SUSTAINABILITY
ACOUSTICS IN CHURCHES AND SUSTAINABILITY
TUESDAY, 21 JUNE 2022
2.30 pm | Bologna Fiere | Spazio Arena
The proclamation of the word and its proper intelligibility have both a central role in the acoustic project of a church. In this way, the acoustic is strongly related to the importance of the word in the formation process of God’s people, but it is also linked to the current trend of having more and more empty churches and this largely affects their original acoustic conditions. That is because all of that implies a particular attention to new buildings projects and, at the same time, it is also crucial trying to find an adaptation of old sacred buildings. In order to solve problems, we often rely on just an amplification system, but each effort made to enhance the intelligibility of the word does not have to neglect the need of maintaining a reverberation, which can emphasize the liturgical chant and that can also lend a transcendence aspect. Moreover, all of we have to keep in mind that the acoustic can give a particular sense of participation of devotees.
What is also important is that nowadays both sustainable and recycled materials can have an important role in what is the listening quality.
